Beloved Maa served the Sadhu Vaswani Mission, her beloved Master and his cause for 78 long years. She became the first Principal of the Mira school founded by her Master at the age of 19 and endeared herself to the staff and students alike. Her charismatic personality attracted all – --the young and not the very young, the poor and the elite, the educated and the uneducated. To all she gave the pure, unselfish love that flowed like a fountain from her mother heart.
After the passing away of her gurudeva, Sadhu T.L.Vaswani, Maa traveled extensively both in India and abroad spreading the message of her Master and serving humanity. She always aspired to spread her Master’s teachings as long as she could and as far as she could. She wrote books on mythology, spiritualism and on saints of God in both English and Sindhi, her mother tongue. “A Saint of Modern India” is one of her master pieces ---an engrossing, encyclopedic work and the only biography in English of her Master. The Brilliant work has received much acclaim. Her poems of lyric beauty, deep devotion and intense yearning for the Divine are a rare collection ---- they reflect the genius of a poetess who belonged to a rare order.
In the passing away of Maa Haridevi Vaswani, Sadhu Vaswani Mission has lost a strong pillar, a spiritual preacher. Maa had drunk deep from the spiritual fountain that her Mentor Sadhu Vaswani was and in turn she attained spiritual heights. Having come in his direct contact, she collected precious gems from his treasure trove which she passed on to aspirants on the spiritual path thus becoming an awakener for many a slumbering soul. She glorified the Name Divine with every breath of her being and led a simple, serene life --- a hidden life in prayer and austerity.
Maa was the very picture of serenity. From her being emanated peace profound. She spread the sunshine of peace and joy wherever she went and made this world a veritable heaven. She was the very picture of love and humility. Her genuine concern and caring ways left an indelible mark on the minds of all who came in her contact. They felt drawn towards her like iron filings to a magnet. Maa was always reconciled to the will Divine and accepted everything as a gift from the Lord. She could smile in adversities and thus became a source of courage to many a distressed soul.
Maa’s face glowed with a Divine radiance. She was always clad in a plain white cotton sari. Maa was simplicity personified. To be in her sacred company was like being in the very presence of God ----like experiencing peace profound. Her gentle touch could leave one feeling truly blessed. Such was the holy and enchanting personality of beloved Maa.
Maa’s death has left an immeasurable void. Humanity has indeed lost a prophet of love and compassion, a lighthouse, an awakener, a messiah, a saint of the highest order. But Maa’s legacy and aura shall always remain. Methinks Maa’s devotees who have been loath to part from her seem to say on this sacred day:
O! Holy Mother of the spiritual world,
Message Divine did you herald
Even as we miss your sanctifying presence
And bow our heads in reverence,
To Thee, Beloved Maa we implore
Do take us safely to the Other Shore!
